The biggest cause of house fires is the stove. Always remember to turn your stove off and never leave rags next to the burner. You should also have your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors checked every 6 months. Education is the biggest prevention. Teach your kids the dangers and how to use stoves and furnaces.
Turning of the the gas and water if you are going to leave the house for more than 3 days is ideal. Having a neighbor check periodically on the house is preferred.
Install a burglar alarm. This could save your life, if nothing else, it could save you money on your policy.
Keep object clear of trip and falls.
Prepare your home prior to hurricanes hitting. Board up your windows, place sand bags in front of doors and have tarps available to patch holes in the roof. You should always leave in the event of a hurricane. Damages can be fixed later.
