Texas has thousands of miles of open roads, and plenty of scenic sites to visit. What better way to hit the pavement than on your motorcycle? Biking is so popular, in fact, that there are estimated to be more than 400,000 motorcycles registered in the Lone Star State.

Before riding off into the sunset, make sure you have motorcycle insurance. Come to Reliable Insurance Managers, Inc. and we’ll provide you personalized bike coverage today.

Why Do I Need Motorcycle Insurance?

Like any car or truck, a motorcycle is a motor vehicle. It costs money to buy and maintain. You use it on public roadways, and it faces operating risks just as much as any car. When problems occur, they could cause significant, costly losses for both you and others.

Motorcycle insurance will help you pay for the losses you sustain following motorcycle accidents. It can also cover the harm you might cause others through your mistakes. Therefore, you won’t have to struggle to afford the cost of recovery, and that’s a major benefit to your security.

Do I have to buy coverage?

All motor vehicle operators in Texas must carry auto insurance, by law. Motorcyclists are no exception. Insurance law designates Texas as an at-fault insurance state. So, if you cause a wreck, property damage or injuries to third parties while riding your bike, then you will often have to pay for their losses.

What are the required liability limits?

You must carry motorcycle liability insurance to help you compensate others if you are at-fault for a wreck. Your policy must contain at least the following coverage:

  • $30,000 bodily injury liability coverage per person
  • $60,000 bodily injury liability coverage per accident
  • $25,000 property damage liability coverage per accident

With bodily injury liability coverage, you can compensate another driver, their passengers or even pedestrians for their medical costs and related expenses. Property damage liability coverage will pay for the damage you cause to a third party’s belongings, like their car. Liability coverage can also provide legal assistance for you if those affected by your actions sue you.

Other Policy Options

Don’t just carry the minimum Texas-required liability insurance. You can add other benefits to your motorcycle insurance. You’ll therefore get more help when problems occur.

Higher Liability Limits

Every biker should carry more liability coverage than the minimum-required limits. You’ll have less of a chance of personal hardships as you try to make up for the losses you caused others.

Personal injury protection (PIP insurance)

PIP insurance will help you cover your own medical bills, injury costs and lost income regardless of who is at-fault for a wreck. All Texas policies offer the option for you to buy this coverage.

Physical damage insurance

This coverage will pay to help you repair or replace the bike if it sustains damage.

  • Collision coverage helps you pay for the bike’s damage after a wreck.
  • Comprehensive insurance pays for bike damage not related to collisions. Policies might pay for vehicle damage or total losses resulting from theft, vandalism and many environmental hazards. If the motorcycle is totaled, policies will pay either your bike’s cash value at the time of the wreck, or the full replacement value for a new vehicle.
  • Uninsured/underinsured motorist protection

Another at-fault driver might lack enough liability insurance to pay the total cost of your own damage. Underinsured motorist coverage can pay your remaining costs after that policy pays to its limits. If the other driver doesn’t have liability coverage at all, then uninsured motorist protection can help you pay for the total cost of your claim.

Don’t forget to also ask our agents about other policy options like roadside assistance, diminishing deductibles or glass insurance. These policies can ensure you receive ample financial assistance from your policy, even for seemingly-nominal costs.

Motorcycle Insurance FAQs

Does my car insurance cover my motorcycle?

No. Car insurance and motorcycle insurance are separate types of coverage, despite looking a lot alike. You cannot insure motorcycles on car insurance because of the different operating risks of each vehicle.

Does motorcycle insurance apply to mopeds and scooters?

Yes. Sometimes, you must buy motorcycle coverage on these vehicles, depending on the size of their engines, and how you intend to use them.

How much motorcycle insurance should I get?

One rule of thumb is the more coverage you carry, the more help you’ll have if you have to make a claim on your policy. We recommend you increase your coverage to a level that will protect your full solvency.

What is the cheapest Motorcycle insurance?

Our agents can help you determine the right way to balance your coverage so that you’ll always pay an affordable premium for your motorcycle policies. We can even help you qualify for a variety of discounts and other savings opportunities.
